Have you received a suspicious call from us?

It was brought to our attention that some Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce members received calls from individuals indicating they are either verifying contact information for their membership record and/or have won an award. In some cases, the callers are asking for money from the business.

The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce is not associated with these calls. Our process for verifying your information is through a regular staff member or by edits made by members themselves through the Member Information Center. As you may be aware, our Awards Gala is tonight, where we are celebrating excellence in the business community. The finalists are awarded by vote of our members and the suspicious calls are not in relation to our process or tonight’s event. We do not charge for awards to recognize members.

Better Business Bureau receives complaints about similar scam tactics each year. Red flags include:

  • Award for something you did not enter or were not nominated for and then requires a fee for expensive plaques, signs, etc.  They may attempt to collect money or obtain your credit card information for fraudulent charges.
  • Verifying member information in order to use it for fraud or other illegal activities. Information can include names, addresses, credit card information, date of birth and social security card information.

If your business is contacted regarding either of these situations, please know it is not originating from the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce.  If you have any questions, please contact us at 509-924-4994 and report it to the BBB at bbb.org.
