The Spokane Valley Chamber Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to promoting and enhancing community development through the creation and sponsorship of scholarships, leadership development, and educational programs.
Each year, the Foundation presents an award a special scholarship, named in memory of former Spokane Valley businessman, Sam Campbell. The Sam Campbell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior, who is pursuing a business-related degree.
Sam Campbell’s daughter, Kym and granddaughter, Madison, attended the June Business Connections meeting to present the scholarship in his memory, though the recipient was unable to attend.
The 2017 Sam Campbell Memorial Scholarship recipient is Patricia Alvaro, a graduate of Central Valley High School. While maintaining a 3.9 GPA, she was very involved in her school through Central Valley TED ed, Pacific Northwest Junior Statesmen of America, Central Valley Green Team, Key Club, Chase Youth Commission, and Filipino Cultural Club. She received the Chase Youth Award Judge’s Choice for 2016. She plans to double major in Accounting and Marketing with a minor in Communications. She aspires to be a public or private accountant and with enough experience, she hopes to own her own business someday. She plans to attend Gonzaga University in the fall.
The Valley Chamber Foundation also presented another scholarship, this one on behalf of the Liberty Lake Rotary Club, to an outstanding high school senior.
While maintaining a 3.99 GPA, this student was involved in Dance Time Theater Company, LINK, Life Church, Central Valley Symphony, CV musical theater, Honor’s Society board member, and active with several activities including yoga, kickboxing, gardening cooking a volunteer with the Inland Northwest Blood Center and a tennis/dance coach. She is a recipient of the Kiwanis community service award as well as a Pepperdine University Regeant program. She plans to major in business with interests in international relations as well as own her own business someday.
