SPOKANE VALLEY, WA – Mayor Rod Higgins has proclaimed May 20, 2017 Lemonade Day for the program’s inaugural year in Spokane Valley. Over 200 youth throughout the Greater Spokane Valley have registered to participate in the Lemonade Day program.
Lemonade Day is a free, community-wide program that introduces youth to entrepreneurship by teaching them how to start, own and operate their own lemonade stands. After youth have completed the Lemonade Day curriculum, they are prepared for the real-world experience of owning their own lemonade businesses. Youth are encouraged to spend some, save some, and share some of their profits by giving back to the community that has supported them.
Presented locally by the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, Lemonade Day fuels two of the Chamber’s Big 5 initiatives: Greater Learning and Greater Vision. Greater Learning focuses on building our future workforce through partnerships between businesses and our educational community. Greater Vision emphasizes creating and supporting an enterprising identity for the Greater Spokane Valley region.
More than 48 businesses and organizations are currently supporting Lemonade Day by providing direct sponsorships, locations for lemonade stands, and volunteers. Major sponsors include: The City of Spokane Valley, the City of Liberty Lake, Avista and BECU. Supporting sponsors include: De Leon Foods, Global Credit Union, Horizon Credit Union, Spokane Gymnastics, Walmart, Washington Trust, Waste Management and Fred Meyer.
On Lemonade Day everyone has an important role to play in supporting our youth. Whether mentoring a youth, hosting a stand, or purchasing lemonade, the entire community can be involved in supporting our young entrepreneurs.
