President and Chief Executive Officer

The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce (GSVCC) is seeking an innovative, decisive, and passionate leader to serve as its next President and Chief Executive Officer.

This is an on-site, full-time position, located in Spokane Valley, WA.

The Greater Spokane Valley Region served by the Chamber, including the Cities of Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake, is experiencing strong growth in both population and jobs. This is a unique opportunity to lead a respected, forward-thinking Chamber to build upon the momentum our Chamber has experienced over the past several years, working alongside a vibrant business community deeply invested in the region’s future.

About the Chamber

GSVCC is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization representing more than 780 member businesses across all industries and sizes. Through advocacy, workforce development, education, and community engagement, the Chamber serves as the unifying business force dedicated to community vitality and economic prosperity. In addition, GSVCC also supports future leaders through its 501(c)3 education scholarship foundation.

Position Overview

The President and CEO reports to the Board of Directors and oversees a staff of five to seven professionals, while providing guidance and support to 29 volunteer members on the Board of Directors. This role serves as the Chamber’s chief strategist, ambassador, fundraiser, and spokesperson.

Key Responsibilities                                                                                                                       

  • Lead the overall strategic planning, management and success of the GSVCC, measured by membership, revenue and event growth.
  • Management of the Chamber’s financial affairs, including the preparation and presentation of an annual budget and sound management of revenues and expenses presented at monthly board meetings in support of the organization’s strategic vision.
  • Partner with the Board Executive Committee to develop the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Increase and retain membership through strong engagement.
  • Generate sustainable revenue through member investments, sponsorships, events, programs, advertising, and grants.
  • Serve as official spokesperson and main contact for the Chamber.
  • Actively participate in community initiatives as well as regional and state-wide business and economic-related events.
  • Identify, recruit and develop a diverse group of volunteer leaders for the Chamber.
  • Provide vision and leadership for the organization to achieve high level results while maintaining member engagement.
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships with elected officials, nonprofits, educational and community leaders, and local businesses.
  • Collaborate with Board of Directors to advance solutions that strengthen the region’s business climate.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to develop team members, strengthen skills, and foster a unified, high-performing team, while delivering clear feedback, recognition, and timely resolution of issues.
  • Oversee social media platforms and marketing strategies to strengthen visibility and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working within a nonprofit organization
  • Well versed in driving membership sales, growth, and retention
  • Ability to travel 3–5 times per year, primarily within the region, and attend approximately 12–24 Chamber and community events annually – some evening and weekend events
  • Experience with an association and/or fundraising activities preferred
  • Demonstrated strengths in leadership, people management, delegation, collaboration, and driving results
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
  • Proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments with professionalism, integrity, and political savvy
  • Commitment to diversity, ethics, adaptability, and innovation

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $90,000 – $120,000 annually, with a potential bonus program

General Description:

The Business Development Manager is a critical business development position on the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce team. The Business Development Manager is responsible for all functions of the chamber’s membership including the recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, the management of the ambassador committees and networking groups

Employee Status:

The Business Development Manager reports to the Vice President and is a full-time position. As a full-time employee position is eligible to receive all of the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce staff benefit package.

Basic Duties:

• Management of membership budget forecasting, development, and execution

• Direct management of the Membership, Ambassador committee, and networking groups

• Achieve membership goals and grow the overall chamber membership

• Prospect and qualify leads and conduct sales presentations resulting in new members

• Achieve sponsorship and advertising sales goals and grow the overall sponsorship program as directed

• Coordination of member activities in conjunction with chamber events

• Represent the chamber at community events, functions, and meetings

• Prepare weekly/monthly membership reports

• Staff chamber events and programs as assigned

• All other duties as may be required

Membership Development:

It is the responsibility of the Business Development Manager to grow membership revenue and increase total membership of the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Business Development Manager, in partnership with other staff will need to develop and implement a member recruitment and retention strategy that can be utilized across the organization to grow total membership. The Business Development Manager will also be responsible for membership recruitment, a minimum of new member sales per month as outlined.

Retention:

It will be the responsibility of the Business Development Manager to work with the membership team to ensure accurate implementation of the retention program and track results. Additionally, the Business Development Manager will work with the ambassador committees wherever appropriate to achieve the retention goals of the organization.

Events:

It will be the responsibility of the Business Development Manager to build engagement of chamber members in conjunction with the chamber’s signature events with the support of their direct reports.

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Associate or Bachelor degree preferred. Some college coursework in business, communications, sales, marketing or related field is a plus.

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an outside sales role, with demonstrated sales results. Prefer individuals with experience in nonprofit membership driven organizations

• Some travel required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Customer Service & Relationship Management – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to membership base, building relationships and a referral network within Spokane County.

• Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated, team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships.

• Communication – able to effectively express self verbally and in writing, using correct language and grammar in a professional manner.

• Organization & Time Management – able to work independently with minimal supervision and a high degree of self-motivation and self-direction. Able to handle multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.

• Sales Results – proven ability to achieve a high level of success signing on new members/investors and retaining current members.

• Systems & Software – proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

 

Compensation Range:

$45K – $55K/year salary + Bonus, Commission
