Government Action Program Summary

Our first Government Action Meeting of 2018 was a great opportunity for attendees to learn about the status of the Cities of Liberty Lake and Spokane Valley. Mayor Peterson of Liberty Lake distributed a couple handouts with graphs that provide insight as to how much tax revenue was collected, from what sources, and where those funds are being allocated. These handouts and some other information provided by Mayor Peterson taught the Committee that the City of Liberty Lake, while potentially seeking a more efficient means of funding the construction and maintenance of roads than a utility tax, is in very, very good shape, and that the City is looking to cooperate with Legislators in Olympia and WSDOT to find a way to bring an interchange to Henry Rd.
Speaking for the City of Spokane Valley, Mayor Higgins gave the Committee an overview of the City’s 2018 Legislative Agenda. The Council will fight to combat excessive regulations that harm Spokane Valley businesses, for parental rights, new indigent defense regulations, a recent law reducing City involvement in the foreclosure process of abandoned homes, the Hirst decision, and will continue to seek funding for the Barker Rd./BNSF grade separation project.
