Chamber endorses Proposition 1

March 27, 2017

Mar. 27, 2017, Greater Spokane Valley, WA – The Board of Directors of the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce has approved support of Proposition 1, renewing the sales and use option for public safety, which will be on the April 25 ballot.
The Chamber board believes that it is important to maintain emergency communications system that integrates 911, Police, Fire, EMS staff, and Crime Check as well as enhance the system’s technology and capabilities.
On April 25, 2017, voters will be asked to vote on Spokane County’s Proposition 1 that continues the existing 1/10th of 1% of local sales and use tax that keeps Spokane County’s emergency communications systems and services functional.
In 2008, voters approved the 1/10th of 1% of sales and use tax, which funded the integration of Spokane County Police/Sheriff, Fire and EMS radio communication systems, reinstated Crime Check, established ALERT Spokane and built towers and structures to expand coverage and bandwidth for communications. Spokane County citizens are encouraged to vote ‘yes’ for Proposition 1 on April 25, 2017.
