The Benefits of Roundabouts
Glen Wagemann from Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) was the main speaker at the April 26 meeting of the Joint-Chamber Transportation Committee. Wagemann’s program was a seminar focused on the benefits of roundabouts as opposed to light-guided intersections. The nature of roundabouts is to force traffic to slow down and move more efficiently through an intersection. Other benefits include lower maintenance/repair costs and increased safety. With the forced reduction of traffic speeds in roundabouts, the likelihood of fatalities occurring is reduced, making this the safest way to organize an intersection.
