Vote Yes on School Levies
The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors endorses our area school levy measures on the February 9, 2021 election ballot.
The Board of Directors of the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce voted to approve support on the Central Valley School District, Freeman School District, and West Valley School District levy measures during the December 16 board of directors meeting.
These are not new taxes but replacement levies which will take the place of current (expiring) dollars voted on in 2018. Collection years for these replacement levies will be 2022, 2023 and 2024. This vote is about the future of our region’s students.
“These levies have provided students and families with access to Chromebooks, hotspots, technology support, PPE, nurses, counselors, meal distributions and more, said Lance Beck President and CEO of the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce. “Without these local dollars giving local control, specific needs could not be identified or fulfilled.”
Central Valley School District’s School Programs & Operations Replacement Levy would pay for necessary staffing to maintain lower class sizes, nurses to meet students’ basic health needs, counselors, social workers, security, custodians and support staff; special education programs filling the gap between program costs and funding; curriculum, textbooks, teaching, professional development and instructional materials; co-curricular & extracurricular activities; student intervention & support programs academic, social and emotional supports; resource deputies and officers, crossing guards, playground supervisors and school assistants; Chromebooks for every student that needs one, classroom technology and Wi-Fi support.
Freeman School District’s Replacement Education Programs and Operation Levy would pay for existing high-quality programs, services and activities for students for three years. The Capital Levy for Safety, Security, Technology, and Infrastructure improvements at Freeman. This also supports the modernization and remodeling of school facilities.
West Valley School District’s Replacement School Programs and Operations Levy will pay for existing high-quality programs, services, and staff for students for three years (2022-2024). It will fund the difference between federal and state allocations for school funding and the actual cost of operating our schools. It will also pay for teachers, technology, safety and security, nurses, classroom para-educators, busing, and extra-curricular activities like sports, band, robotics, drama, art, and much more.
